Songs are a fantastic but underutilized tool to use in your ESL or EFL speaking lessons. Most people like music, and something about music is fun and catchy, which makes it a great way to learn a foreign language. The question is, what are some good ways to use songs in class? Yes, you could do a gap fill exercise, and answering concept questions, or even pronunciation lessons. All of which you can find some of those in the Listening Lessons section. |
How It Works:
Your students will have a conversation with a song. First, you will demonstrate how the activity works. (The order is flexible) 1. Show the lyrics of a song on the board. 2. Play the song for the students to listen to. 3. Ask questions to the singer that the song lyrics will answer creating a conversation. 4. Take this exercise in any creative direction you can imagine with your classes. Watch the video above for ideas and further explanation. TURN IT INTO A CLASS PROJECT -------------> |
Pro Tips:
Pre-approve songs before they start their projects (if you do projects with it).
Demonstrate what you want the students to do first.
Easter Egg Lessons:
Building creativity - They will get to exercise their creativity with forming their questions and answers.
