I've recently received a question on my Facebook page about the difference between spoken and written English. That's what we're going to look at in this live lesson. I also assigned an assignment on Facebook for students to do and send in. The assignment is:
what the film was
when and where you saw it
what the film was about
and explain how you felt about this film.
Write 1 or 2 paragraphs discussing this question. This is an IELTS Speaking-type question, so feel free to write in spoken English style.
Spoken vs. Written English
•More informal (depending on what you’re presenting)
- Phrasal verbs
- Idioms and expressions
•Write spoken linkers and connectors
- You know...
- Question tags
- Fluency builders
•More formal (depending on what you’re writing)
- No contractions
- Limit phrasal verbs
- Presenting YOUR ideas
There are many more specific differences and tricks to learn, and if you would like more personal help, book a lesson at Sweed Academy and we can work on anything you need.
